Track & Field Maintains Rankings Before NCAA Indoors

BATON ROUGE — The LSU men’s and women’s track and field teams will head to the NCAA Indoor Championships this weekend among the favorites in the national title race as they hold their position in the Top 10 of the both Trackwire 25 and Coaches Poll released Tuesday.

The Lady Tigers have moved into a tie for the No. 2 spot in the final Trackwire 25 power ranking of the indoor season as they are projected to score a total of 38 points at the NCAA Indoor Championships while they also hold their position at No. 3 in the latest USTFCCCA Top 20.

The Tigers have shown dramatic improvement this season as they enter the national meet ranked in a tie for the No. 9 spot in this week’s Trackwire 25 while falling two spots to No. 10 in the Coaches Poll after entering the season unranked in both polls. They are tied with Baylor in the Trackwire 25 as they are projected to score 22 points at the national meet this weekend.

The Arizona State Sun Devils are the consensus No. 1 team in the nation for the second straight week and head to the national meet as the favorite to win the national championship on the women’s side. Wisconsin has overtaken Florida State for the top spot in the men’s rankings as they are the nation’s consensus No. 1 team for the first time this season.

The Tigers and Lady Tigers will close out the indoor season this weekend as they are set to compete in the NCAA Indoor Championships on Friday and Saturday at the Randal Tyson Track Center on the campus of the University of Arkansas. The first day of competition is scheduled to begin with the men’s heptathlon at 9 a.m. CST followed by the meet’s first field events at noon and running events beginning at 4:30 p.m.
