BATON ROUGE — Pitcher Jared Bradford and diver Hali Sauicer were named the LSU Male and Female Athletes of the Week Tuesday following a vote by a local media panel.
Bradford delivered a brilliant outing versus Lipscomb on Sunday, leading LSU to an 8-4 victory. The junior from Hueytown, Ala., limited the Bisons to two runs on three hits in 7.1 innings with one walk and 13 strikeouts. The strikeout total is the highest by an LSU pitcher since April 2, 1999 when Kurt Ainsworth recorded 16 Ks in a win at Tennessee.
In addition, Bradford worked 1.2 shutout innings on Friday, allowing just one hit with three strikeouts.
In his two appearances combined, Bradford allowed two runs on four hits in nine innings with one walk, 16 strikeouts and a .143 opponent batting average.
Saucier, a senior from Gig Harbor, Wash., qualified for her first NCAA Championship meet after capturing the NCAA Zone B Regional title in the three-meter last Friday. She is the first LSU diver to win an NCAA regional championship since Barb Gorst won the platform title in 2003.
Saucier also posted top-five finishes in two other events, finishing fifth in the both one meter and platform competitions.
