TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — Junior Brian Noonan fired a team-best 2-under par 70 on Monday, while senior Chris Wells carded an under-par round of his own at 1-under 71 to lead the LSU men’s golf team in the second round of the Seminole Intercollegiate at Golden Eagle Country Club.
Wells has positioned himself among the Top 10 performers in the field through two rounds as he followed his 1-over 73 in Sunday’s opening round by carding four birdies on Monday en route to a 71 as he currently sits in a tie for 10th place at even-par 144.
Noonan, who posted a 6-over par round of 78 on Sunday, improved eight strokes in the second round with a 70 as he carded a team-high five birdies on the day while finishing his round strong with two birdies on his last three holes The Tigers moved into a tie for 11th place by shaving 10 strokes off of their team total in the opening round with a 5-over 293 on Monday for a two-round total of 20-over 596.
Freshman Brent Blaum added another solid round for the Tigers as the native of Coral Gables, Fla., carded two birdies and three bogeys on his round for a 1-over 73 as he is currently in a tie for 28th place with Noonan at 4-over 148. Freshman Bryant Lach finished the second round in a tie for 63rd, while junior Beck Troutman enters the final round in 73rd place.
The 12th-ranked North Carolina Tar Heels posted a tournament low team total of 7-under 281 on Monday to take a one-stroke lead in the team standings over first-round leader Auburn as they enter the final round with a two-round total of 1-over 577. First-round co-leader Mississippi State (589) fell into seventh-place after posting an 18-hole score of 11-over 299 in the second round.
All-American Rhys Davies of East Tennessee State fired the lowest round of the day with a 4-under 68 to take over the top spot in the individual standings with a two-round total of 3-under 141. Davies carries a one-stroke lead into Tuesday’s final round over Reed Darsie of North Carolina, Patton Kizzire of Auburn and first-round leader Brad Revell of NC State, who are each tied for second at 2-under 142.
The Tigers will tee off alongside Virginia and the College of Charleston in Tuesday’s final round with tee times beginning on the back nine at 7:42 a.m. CST.
