TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — LSU’s senior standout Chris Wells posted the lowest round of the day for the Tigers with an 18-hole score of 1-over par 73 to lead the LSU men’s golf team on the first day of competition at the Seminole Intercollegiate at Golden Eagle Country Club.
Wells was the last Tiger to tee off in the first round as he made par on his first eight holes on the front nine before making the turn at 1-over for his round. He added two birdies and two bogeys on the back nine to finish the day in a tie for 16th place. The Tigers enter the tournament’s second round in 13th place in the team standings at 15-over 303.
Freshman Brent Blaum finished his round in a tie for 34th after posting a 3-over 75, while fellow freshman Bryant Lach follows closely behind in a tie for 46th at 5-over 77. Juniors Brian Noonan and Beck Troutman carded first-round totals of 6-over 78 and 9-over 81, respectively.
A pair of Southeastern Conference rivals sit atop the team standings after the first round of play as both Mississippi State and Auburn posted the lowest team scores of the day at 2-over 290. Rounding out the top five heading into Monday’s second round are the College of Charleston at 5-over 293, Northwestern at 6-over 294 and UAB at 7-over 295.
Noah Goldman led the Bulldogs’ effort by firing a 2-under 70 to sit in a tie for third place in the individual standings, while the Tigers were led by the play of Patton Kizzire and Gordon Strother, who each posted even-par rounds of 72 to finish the day in a tie for 10th. However, none were able to match the effort of NC State’s Brad Revell as the Wolfpack freshman fired a 5-under 67 to take a two-stroke lead in the race for medalist honors.
The Tigers are paired with NC State (304) and Toledo (313) in Monday’s second round and are slated to tee off from the back nine beginning at 9:27 a.m. Live scoring of the tournament’s second and third rounds will be provided by Golfstat and can be seen online by logging on to the organization’s official website, www.golfstat.com.
