BATON ROUGE — The LSU women’s tennis team opens Southeastern Conference play Friday as it welcomes the University of Tennessee to the W.T. “Dub” Robinson Tennis Stadium in a 3 p.m. CST match-up.

“Tennessee has always been a touch match. We’re excited about it,” LSU head coach Tony Minnis said. “We are ready to play.”

The Lady Tigers enter the contest with a 5-2 record, coming off a tough loss at home to No. 58 Florida State.

This match will also be the first in SEC play for the Lady Vols. They also own a 5-2 record, and rank 24 by ITA in the latest rankings.

“Tennessee is going to come in with a lot of fire and intensity,” Minnis said. “I expect a tough match. It is going to be a dog fight.”

The Lady Tigers are behind 11-20 in the all-time series against Tennessee. LSU’s 4-3 win in the 2004 SEC Tournament quarterfinals is the only one it has recorded over the Lady Vols in the past eight tries.

The Lady Tigers own a 1-1 record at the “Dub” this season, while the Lady Vols are 2-1 on the road.

LSU’s sophomore Megan Falcon is still ranked at No. 7 by ITA in the singles poll, while her and her partner, freshman, Hannah Robinson, sit at No.11 in the doubles poll. For the Lady Vols, senior Blakeley Griffith is ranked individually at No. 21.
