PARRISH, Fla. — The LSU women’s golf team finishes its first tournament of the spring season with a sixth place finish, the top Southeastern Conference team in the 14-team field, in the Central District Invitational that wrapped up the 54-hole competition on Tuesday.
Rebecca Kuhn had a tremendous finish to her tournament and posted a top 10 finish in the opening event after shooting a one-under par 71 on the par 72 River Wilderness Golf Course. The junior posted rounds of 76-75-71 to finish at 222 and the six over score was good enough for a tie for sixth place in the competition. Ashley Knoll of Texas A&M ran away with the individual competition with a seven-under 209 for the 54-holes.
The Lady Tigers shot a 13-over par 301 to finish at 45-over 909 (310-298-301). Texas A&M won the event easily after shooting a 1-under 287 on the final day to finish at 10-over 874 (291-296-287). Michigan State was 13-shots back in second at 23-over-887, while Baylor was third at 41-over 905. TCU and Michigan both shot 294 on the final day to move past LSU with TCU at 42-over 906 and Michigan in fifth at 44-over 908.
LSU on the final day counted a 76 from Alexis Rather and 77s from Caroline Martens and Kim Meck.
“It was good for us to get out and play our first tournament and we know what we need to work on for our next event,” said LSU Coach Karen Bahnsen. “I was very pleased how we played in the second round and now we need to be able to finish a tournament the next day in the same way.”
LSU plays its next event in Florida as well at the UCF Challenge in Orlando, Fla., March 5 and 6.
