BATON ROUGE — The No. 20 ranked LSU men’s tennis team will host UL-Lafayette Saturday at 1 p.m. on the newly resurfaced home courts at W.T. “Dub” Robinson Tennis Stadium.
The Tigers (3-0) have a tough stretch of matches in the coming week as they face No. 60 UL-Lafayette on Saturday, No. 30 Rice on Tuesday and No. 2 Ohio State on the following Saturday.
“UL-Lafayette has a very strong lineup and they have played some tough matches already this year,” LSU head coach Jeff Brown said. “They are an experienced team and we are hoping to use this match to propel us into the coming week.”
Senior Ken Skupski currently ranks ninth on LSU’s career singles victories list with 93. With a win on Saturday, Skupski would be tied with former Tiger Mark Shoptaugh for eighth all-time. The two-time All-American has compiled a 13-5 record this season.
LSU has one of the strongest trios of doubles teams in the SEC. Skupski and partner James Cluskey, currently ranked No. 3 in the nation, lead the team with 9 doubles victories. Danny Bryan and Colt Gaston own a 16-match winning streak dating back to last season. Kevin Dessauer and newcomer Jan Zelezny have gelled well together as they swept the competition this past weekend while only losing two games.
The Tigers hold a 15-0 series record over the Ragin’ Cajuns. The teams met last season, when LSU tallied a 5-2 victory over UL-Lafayette. The Ragin’ Cajuns (2-3) are led by first-year head coach Katalin Gyulai.
