BATON ROUGE — After an impressive opening weekend of dual competition the LSU men’s tennis team moved up one spot to the No. 20 position in the latest Intercollegiate Tennis Association rankings released Tuesday.
The Southeastern Conference features three teams in the top-10 including No. 1 Georgia, No. 4 Ole Miss and No. 8 Florida.
Three of LSU’s upcoming non-conference opponents received high rankings as well. Ohio State came in at No. 2, Illinois at No. 7 and Texas A&M at No. 19.
LSU was near perfect in their opening weekend of dual competition as they won all three matches against Southern, Centenary and Southern Miss. The Tigers went through the weekend without losing a singles or doubles match. Additionally, the Tigers won all 31 singles sets that finished during the three-match stretch.
Senior Ken Skupski won three singles matches to push his career total to 93. The Liverpool, England native is now ranked 9th in school history in career singles wins.
Individual rankings were not released this week. Skupski remains at No. 9 in the singles rankings and at No. 3, with partner James Cluskey, in the doubles rankings. Skupski along with Georgia’s John Isner are the only two SEC players listed in the top 10 of both singles and doubles.
Danny Bryan remains at No. 68 in singles.
Kevin Dessauer and Eric DeRoche remain at No. 44 in the doubles.
The Tigers return to action this Saturday, Feb. 17, when they face UL-Lafayette at 1 p.m.
