SAN DIEGO — The LSU women’s tennis team grabbed their second regular season win as they downed San Diego State University, 6-1, at the Aztec Tennis Center.
“My kids played really hard today,” LSU head coach Tony Minnis said. “They gave tremendous effort in doubles and it set the tone for what we were trying to do.”
The Lady Tigers swept doubles play as the No. 10-ranked duo of Megan Falcon and Hannah Robinson improved their career record as a pair to 10-1. They defeated the Aztec’s Holly Bagshaw and Eliska Krausova, 8-2.
Sophomores Mykala Hedberg and Staten Spencer faced SDSU’s Alesya Vidov and Ozge Atalay in the No. 2 doubles spot. They secured the point for the Lady Tigers as they won 8-2.
Junior Tiffany Tucker and freshman Nicole Kantor rounded out a solid doubles performance for LSU on court three as they defeated Sisse Nielson and Kathryn Kitts, 8-3.
In singles play the Lady Tigers went on to grab five of the six matches and secure a second win in regular season play.
All of the matches were won in straight sets as Kantor and Ashley Murdock defeated their opponents with identical scores of 6-2, 6-0. Kantor faced the Aztec’s Esther Cadua on court four and Murdock downed Kitts on court six.
No. 2 Falcon defeated No. 69 Krausova on court one by a score of 6-4, 7-5. Robinson handled the match on court five against the Aztec’s Nielson by winning 6-4, 6-1.
No. 83 Hedberg upset SDSU’s No. 51 Bagshaw on court two as she won her first set 6-2 and then continued to dominate the second set winning it 6-1.
The Lady Tigers will return home for a short week of practice and then travel to take on Texas A & M on Sunday, Feb. 11, at 1:30 p.m. CST as they continue non-conference play and look to extend their winning streak to three.
