BATON ROUGE — The LSU men’s tennis team moved up one spot to No. 21 in the latest poll released by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association on Tuesday.
The Tigers are coming off an impressive 2007 debut at the SEC Coaches Indoor Championships in New Orleans, where the doubles team of Danny Bryan and Colt Gatson won the doubles title.
The Southeastern Conference features three teams in the top-10 including No. 1 Georgia, No. 5 Ole Miss and No. 7 Florida.
Three of LSU’s upcoming non-conference opponents received high rankings as well. Ohio State came in at No. 2, Illinois at No. 6 and Texas A&M at No. 20.
Individual rankings were not released this week. Senior Ken Skupski remains at No. 9 in the singles rankings and at No. 3, with partner James Cluskey, in the doubles rankings. Skupski along with Georgia’s John Isner are the only two SEC players listed in the top 10 of both singles and doubles.
Bryan remains at No. 68 in singles. Bryan leads the team with 12 wins this season.
Kevin Dessauer and Eric DeRoche remain at No. 44 in the doubles rankings.
Due to the re-surfacing of LSU’s home courts at W.T. “Dub” Robinson Tennis Stadium, this Friday’s season opener against Southern and Saturday’s match against Southern Miss will be held on the near by LSU practice courts. Sunday’s match against Southern Miss will be played at the Paula G. Manship YMCA located at 8100 Plaza Dr. in Baton Rouge.
