BATON ROUGE — Following a 196.450 performance against Georgia last week, the Tigers gymnastics team improved one spot to No. 12 in the latest national rankings with a 195.150 season average.

Florida continues to lead the nation with a 197.025 average. Georgia (196.896), Alabama (196.300), Utah (196.269) and Stanford (196.170) round out the top five.

For the first time this season LSU is ranked nationally on each of the four individual events.

The Tigers are listed at No. 3 on the vault with a 49.255 average. They improved one spot to No. 9 on the bars (48.875), jumped five positions to No. 13 on the floor (48.780) and enter the beam standings at No. 24 (48.240).

LSU has three athletes that are ranked individually among the nation’s top 25.

Senior Kelly Phelan is ranked on a LSU-best two events. She improved one spot to No. 16 on the vault with a 9.860 average and is ranked on the floor for the first time season, entering the standings at No. 24 (9.840).

Junior Ashleigh Clare-Kearney remains the nation’s second-ranked vaulter for a fourth straight week, averaging a 9.925 on the event.

Senior Nicki Butler is also listed among the vault standings for a fourth straight week. She moved up two spots to No. 13 with a 9.865 average.

Up next, the Tigers travel to Lexington, Ky., this Friday for a dual meet with No. 24 Kentucky. Action kicks off at 6 p.m. from UK’s Memorial Coliseum.
