BATON ROUGE — The ninth-ranked LSU softball team began its fourth week of preseason practice outdoors at Tiger Park on Monday afternoon, taking advantage of the clear, although chilly, day.
The Tigers were able to get a full team practice in on the field, including work in the soggy outfield that is still saturated from the heavy rains in January. During the two and a half our session, LSU went through fielding drills, including a full workout in the outfield, and took batting practice both in the cages and on the field.
“It was a good day,” said LSU head coach Yvette Girouard. “We got to swing the bats and got in a lot of good defensive work. We’re trying to stay out here as long as we can while we can. The team is almost ready.”
The Tigers’ practice schedule this week will depend on the weather as LSU tries to get as much time outdoors as possible. If it is raining on Tuesday as is forecasted, the Tigers will take the day off and work through the weekend instead, when the weather is forecasted to be much better.
LSU will open its season on Friday, Feb. 9 against Memphis at Tiger Park in the Tiger Classic at 3:30 p.m. The Tigers will then take on Centenary, Middle Tennessee and Missouri before beginning bracket play in the three-day tournament.
