BATON ROUGE — Despite cold temperatures and misting rain, the LSU softball team began the third week of preseason practice outside at Tiger Park on Tuesday after spending last week indoors at the Charles McClendon Indoor Practice Facility.
Due to continuing rain in the area, the team was limited to infield practice while the saturated outfield dries out. The Tigers spent the practice working on the short game, going over various bunting scenarios.
“It was nice to at least be able to get on the dirt,” said LSU head coach Yvette Girouard. “We did what we could today. We worked on the short game and worked in the dirt since the outfield is just a mess from the rain. We’re making the best of a bad situation and trying to move forward.”
The Tigers took the day to practice situational bunting, going through the bunting signals and executing several types of bunt plays. The infield was also able to work on bunt defense while the outfielders were at the plate.
The Tigers will continue with their regular schedule on Wednesday. LSU will practice each weekday this week beginning at 3 p.m. before holding a scrimmage next Saturday beginning at 10 a.m. The Tigers are hoping to continue to work outdoors during the week, but are at the mercy of the weather and the field conditions.
