BATON ROUGE — The LSU men’s tennis team was voted to finish second in the SEC Western Division standings by the league’s 12 men’s tennis coaches, as it was released by the conference office on Wednesday.

The preseason poll is voted on by the SEC men’s tennis coaches and is based on a 6-5-4-3-2-1 count.

The Georgia Bulldogs were picked as the overall champion. Last season, the Bulldogs made it to the finals of the NCAA Championships before being defeated by Pepperdine. The Bulldogs are currently ranked No. 1 in the ITA rankings.

Georgia was also voted as Eastern Division Champion, with Florida being voted second. Tennessee was voted third, with Kentucky in fourth, South Carolina in fifth and Vanderbilt in sixth.

On the Western Division side, Ole Miss was picked to lead the way followed by LSU in second. Alabama came in third with Auburn in the fourth spot.  Mississippi State and Arkansas rounded out the list at fifth and sixth, respectively.

The coaches will hold their annual indoor tournament this weekend in New Orleans, with the conference season beginning the weekend of March 2.  The 2007 SEC Men’s Tennis Championships take place April 19-22 at LSU’s W.T. Robinson Tennis Stadium.
