Lady Tigers Tennis Picked to Win SEC West

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — The Southeastern Conference announced the women’s tennis coaches preseason poll on Thursday, in preparation for the start of the spring tennis season.

On the Western Division side, LSU was picked to dominate, with Ole Miss in the #2 spot.  Arkansas came in third with Auburn in the fourth spot.  Alabama and Mississippi State tied for fifth.

“It is an honor that the SEC coaches realize the type of talent that we have,” LSU head coach Tony Minnis said. “It’s an honor but at the same time we have to be consistent and prove what we are capable of.”

The Florida Gators were picked as the overall champion. The Gators were also voted as Eastern Division Champion, with Vanderbilt being voted second. Georgia was voted third, while South Carolina came in fourth, Tennessee is fifth and Kentucky is sixth.
 
The preseason poll is voted on by the SEC Women’s Tennis Coaches and is based on a 6-5-4-3-2-1 count. The complete tally for the poll is below.

The season begins for some teams this weekend, with the conference season beginning the weekend of March 2.  The 2007 SEC Women’s Tennis Championships will take place April 19-22 on the campus of the University of Kentucky, in Lexington.
