BATON ROUGE — The LSU women’s tennis team had three players ranked in the ITA National rankings released on Tuesday.
Sophomores Megan Falcon and Mykala Hedberg are listed in singles rankings while Falcon and freshman Hannah Robinson are listed in doubles.
“I am very pleased to see Megan, Mykala and Hannah in the national rankings,” LSU head coach Tony Minnis said. “Megan being ranked at No. 2 is the highest in LSU history. She will keep working and getting better, but she is already one of the best players I have seen.”
Falcon led the Lady Tigers as she is ranked No. 2 in singles. In her first year of collegiate play Falcon defeated nine ranked opponents in her run at the ITA All-American Championships. The Alameda, Calif., native compiled a 12-2 singles record in the fall season.
Also representing the Lady Tigers in the singles poll Hedberg was ranked No. 83. She finished the fall season with a record of 6-6.
“I am very happy for Mykala because she has worked really hard and really improved her game,” Minnis said. “This ranking will give her confidence. I know she feels that she can move up and I feel that way as well.”
In the doubles poll, Falcon and Robinson are ranked No. 10. In their first year of playing together the duo finished the fall season with a record of 5-1.
“Megan and Hannah had a very solid fall season,” Minnis said. “They have worked very hard and will continue to improve their game.”
The Lady Tigers will return to action this weekend as they participate in the Michigan Classic at the Varsity Tennis Center in Ann Arbor, Mich.
They will begin regular season play at home on Jan. 27 as they host a dual match against Southern and UL-Lafayette.
