BATON ROUGE — Twenty-one LSU student-athletes received their college degree on Thursday as the University held its fall commencement at the Maravich Assembly Center.
Highlighting the list of fall graduates for LSU, and what is perhaps the most inspirational graduation story involving a student-athlete, is that of former soccer standout Robyn Desormeaux. Desormeaux graduated with a degree in general studies despite an on-going battle with cancer since the fall of 2004.
Desormeaux earned her degree after completing 19 hours of course work during the fall.
Another highlight of the LSU list of student-athlete graduates is that of gymnast Kelly Lea, who graduated Cum Laude with a degree in kinesiology. Lea was a four-time Academic All-America for the Tigers and as well as an All-America in 2006 on the bars.
Two former Tigers received their graduate degrees as track and field Stephanie Butler got a master’s degree in kinesiology, while Stephen Naremore from the swimming and diving squad received a master’s degree in nuclear science.
Six current members of the fourth-ranked LSU football team received their degree on Thursday led by starting offensive guard Brian Johnson, who graduated in general studies. Other current Tiger football players who graduated on Thursday include offensive lineman Paris Hodges, linebacker Jason Spadoni, offensive lineman Garett Wibel and defensive end Ryan Willis and defensive back Keron Gordon.
