BATON ROUGE — LSU junior midfielder Caroline Vanderpool has been recognized for her outstanding performance in the classroom as she was named to the 2006 College Women Scholar All-South Region Team as released by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America.
Vanderpool, a native of Dollard-des-Ormeaux, Quebec, was named a second-team all-region selection as she has maintained a 3.78 cumulative grade-point average in political science in her five semesters at LSU. In addition, she was also named to the SEC Academic Honor Roll for her efforts following the 2005 season.
“This is a great honor for Caroline and just shows the kind of hard work and dedication she has shown in the classroom as well as the playing field,” said LSU head coach Brian Lee. “We’re certainly proud of what Caroline has done, and we expect this kind of performance from our student-athletes here at LSU because we have the best academic support staff in the country.”
Vanderpool was recently presented with the Senior Excellence Award by the Soccer Federation of Quebec as the premier female soccer player in the province in 2006. She was the only representative of Quebec to compete as a member of the Under-20 Canadian National Team at the 2006 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Championships this summer in Moscow, Russia.
