BATON ROUGE — Just one day after being named to the Soccer Buzz All-Central Region Team for the first time in their careers, LSU freshmen Chelsea Potts and Michelle Makasini have been named to the organization’s Freshman All-America Team released on Wednesday.
Potts has been named a Second-Team Freshman All-American after receiving Soccer Buzz Third-Team All-Central Region and Central Region All-Freshman Team honors, while Makasini has earned Fourth-Team Freshman All-America recognition after also being named to the Central Region All-Freshman Team by the magazine on Tuesday.
“This just shows the caliber of athlete LSU is able to attract each year and the potential that these two young ladies possess as they move forward in their careers,” said LSU head coach Brian Lee. “We’re certainly proud of what they have been able to accomplish this season and are excited about what the future holds for them and this program.”
Potts and Makasini become the first Tigers to receive All-America honors in the 12-year history of the LSU soccer program. All 310 schools sponsoring women’s soccer in 2006 were eligible for national and regional awards with selections being made by a panel of selected Division I head coaches and Soccer Buzz staff.
