BATON ROUGE — Senior Kristen Hobbs and juniors Killian Roessner and Shannon Stein have been selected as the team captains for the 2007 LSU softball season, it was announced by head coach Yvette Girouard on Monday.
Hobbs is a three-year letterwinner for the Tigers and was a member of LSU’s 2004 Women’s College World Series team that advanced to within seven outs of the national championship game. After splitting time with Hobbs behind the plate in 2005, Roessner started the entire 2006 season and is a two-year letterwinner. Stein earned her first letter last season after transferring to LSU from Texas A&M-Corpus Christi.
“Our team has selected what I would describe as the perfect trifecta in captains,” said Girouard. “Roessner brings ‘quarterback skills’ as she is the leader on defense and runs the team. Stein is the teammate that all the coaches and players love because she makes the game fun with her enthusiasm and hustle. Hobbs is the ultimate team player as she always has everyone’s interests at heart.”
In addition to the three captains, the team has selected a Leadership Committee with members from each class. These committee members, along with the captains, will give input to the coaching staff to better understand team dynamics and aide in the development of policies and procedures.
The members of the Leadership Committee for 2007 include senior Leslie Klein, junior Andrea Smith, sophomore Dani Hofer and freshman Cody Trahan.
The 2007 season will begin with the Easton Tiger Classic on Feb. 9-11. The Tigers will host Centenary, McNeese State, Middle Tennessee State and Missouri in the three-day tournament at Tiger Park.
