BATON ROUGE — The LSU softball team added a National Letter of Intent from Casey Faile during the fall signing period, as announced by head coach Yvette Girouard on Tuesday.

A pitcher from Andrew Jackson High School in Kershaw, S.C., Faile was the 2006 South Carolina Class AA Softball player of the Year, leading the Lady Volunteers to a 36-4 record and their first state championship last season.

“I was very impressed with Casey’s versatility,” said Girouard. “On the mound, she has good spin and shows great precision with her location. She also has a strong presence as a hitter. We expect her to be a dual threat for us.”

In the circle, the right hander posted a 32-2 record with a state record 520 strikeouts while averaging over 16 strikeouts per game. In addition, she recorded a 0.37 earned run average with a state record 27 shutouts, 12 no-hitters and three perfect games, with only 10 walks.

For her career, the two-time Region VII-AA Softball Player of the Year has posted a 77-16 record with 49 shutouts and 1,232 strikeouts, allowing only 56 earned runs in four seasons after starting as an eighth grader in 2003.

Also a threat at the plate, the 5-foot-6-inch Faile recorded a .500 batting average with a .839 slugging percentage, adding six home runs and 52 RBIs. For her career, she has posted a .385 batting average with 26 doubles, 12 triples and eight home runs, while adding 93 RBIs.

A two-time all-state and all-region selection, she has guided Andrew Jackson to a 103-27 record during her career as the Lady Vols have won four Region VII-AA championships, four Class AA district titles and four Class AA Lower State bids. Also an outstanding student, Faile ranks 13th academically in the class of 2007 and is a member of the Beta Club.
