Women’s Golf Completes ’07-’08 Signing Class

BATON ROUGE — The LSU women’s golf team and coach Karen Bahnsen puts the wraps on a strong fall signing period Tuesday with the approval from the compliance office of the signing papers of Norwegian golf star Amalie Valle.

The Olso, Norway product becomes the fifth signee for the Lady Tigers in the fall signing period.

Valle is being hailed as “one of the most promising players Norway has had in a long time,” according to the National Coach of the Norwegian Golf Federation, Lars Vangdal.

Valle won the order of merit on both the Norwegian Junior Tour and the P4 Ladies Tour in 2005 and was part of the Norwegian national team that came in fifth in the Girls European Championships. She advanced to the third round of this year’s Girls British Amateur Championship.

On the P4 Tour, she has six wins, including the tour stop this year at Sola, Norway. In her one prior appearance in this country for a tournament in late 2005, lost in a sudden death playoff in Orlando in the IJGT Champions Gate event.

“We are very excited to have her also join our team,” said Bahnsen. “I think her international experience will be a big plus for her as she joins our team. Having Caroline (Martens) already on our team as a fellow Norwegian will help both of them. Amalie is a very strong player and we are very happy that she is coming to LSU.”

LSU had already announced the signings for the 2007-08 season of golfers Mary-Michael Burns of University High in Baton Rouge; Lindy LaBauve of Desert Mountain High School in Scottsdale, Ariz.; Megan McChrystal of Jensen Beach High School in Stuart, Fla.; and, Abbigale Oberthier of Montgomery High School in Montgomery, Texas.
