BATON ROUGE — LSU Coach John Brady announced Friday that the Athletic Department has received and certified the national letter-on-intent papers from two more signees for the 2007-08 season, D. J. Wright and Garrett Green.
Wright is a 6-7, 200-pound small forward from Sault St. Marie, Ontario Canada (Toronto Academy Prep School) and Green stands 6-10, 220-pounds from Taft High in Woodland Hills, Calif.
At his Toronto school, Wright averaged 22.5 points, 12.5 rebounds, four blocked shots and four steals per game. He was voted the Canadian national player of the year by one recruiting service. Wright starred for two different AAU teams this past summer. In one Las Vegas tournament in July, he shot close to 80 percent from the field.
“D.J. Wright will be an excellent addition to our team,” said LSU Coach John Brady. “One of the main points in recruiting is replacing and facilitating your needs for the future. Perimeter shooting will be a big need for us and with the signing of D. J. Wright we have taken a step forward in eliminating some of the issues with our perimeter shooting. He is also athletic enough to defend a couple of different type of players in this league and we are looking forward to him coming in.”
Green averaged 12 points and eight rebounds as a prominent reserve as a junior for Taft, but blossomed this summer when he was given a chance to play more on the perimeter and became a hot commodity in AAU circles. Green is a late bloomer to the sport of basketball as soccer was his first love before some growth spurts peaked his interest in the sport five years ago.
“Garrett Green is a 6-10 skilled player that can play off the post and go outside and shoot the ball,” said Brady. “He will be one of the hardest workers on our team and there is no question in my mind that he will have the work ethic and drive to have an outstanding career in our program. We are definitely looking forward to him joining our team next season.”
LSU plays its final exhibition game prior to the start of the 2006-07 season on Wednesday at 7 p.m. against Louisiana College.
