Men’s Tennis Completes Sweep of Ragin’ Cajun Classic

LAFAYETTE, La. — LSU men’s tennis team finished its final weekend of competition for the fall season in grand fashion as they won the singles and doubles portion of the Ragin’ Cajun Classic on Sunday.

Danny Bryan won the top singles bracket and Eric DeRoche and Kevin Dessauer won the doubles bracket.

“Danny didn’t have his best game today but he still found a way to win,” LSU head coach Jeff Brown said. “Eric and Kevin fought back from being behind and hung in there until things started to fall their way.”

In the red singles final, Bryan defeated Piotr Banas of Louisiana-Lafayette in straight sets. Bryan won all four of his matches this weekend without losing a set. The New Orleans native finished an impressive fall campaign with an 11-2 record.

DeRoche and Campbell continued LSU’s dominance over the tournament’s host as they knocked off Dusan Tabak and Jorge Delgado of Louisiana-Lafayette in the doubles final.

The Tigers’ dominance at the Ragin Cajun Classic adds to an already successful day for men’s tennis as Ken Skupski beat No.6-ranked Arnau Brugues of Tulsa to win the consolation bracket of the ITA National Intercollegiate Championships early Sunday morning.

Brown believes his team’s success will pay dividends heading into the regular season.

“This was a great way to end our fall season,” he said. “A lot of our guys have had some big moments that they can build off of for the spring.”

The Tigers take a long break before they return to action at the SEC Coaches Indoor Championships in January. Skupski has won the tournament the past two seasons.
