COLUMBUS, Ohio — Senior Ken Skupski of the LSU men’s tennis team finished the fall season on a high note as he won the consolation bracket of the ITA National Intercollegiate Championships on Sunday.
The ITA All-American improves his record this season to 9-4. Additionally, the win is the 89th of his career, which places him 12th in school history.
“Ken did a great job all week of keeping his composure and attacking his opponents,” LSU associate head coach Mark Booras said. “He had a great performance today and should continue his strong play in the spring.”
Skupski faced little competition against Tulsa’s sixth-ranked Arnau Brugues in the finals as he won in straight sets, 6-3, 6-3.
After losing in the first round, Skupski swept the competition in the consolation bracket, including knocking off three opponents ranked in the top 35.
In the doubles portion of the tournament, Skupski paired with James Cluskey to the reach the semifinal. It was the second time this season the duo had reached an ITA semifinal.
The next time Skupski will be in action is at the SEC Coaches Indoor Championships in January. Skupski has won the Indoor title the past two seasons.
