Dubova Highlights Women’s Tennis Action in Indiana

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. — Junior Anastasiya Dubova of the LSU women’s tennis team highlighted the second day of the Indiana Hoosier Classic as she won the back end of the “B” flight singles bracket.

“I was really proud of the way Anastasiya played today,” LSU head coach Tony Minnis said. “She played a quality opponent today and she had to play at a very high level to get the victory.”

Dubova took the upper hand in her match against Valeriya Makarycheva of Mississippi State and pulled away with a 6-2, 6-2 victory.

The Ukrainian also played on the doubles court as she filled in for injured teammate Tiffany Tucker to pair with Ashley Murdock in the opening round of doubles play. The Lady Tiger pair handily defeated Indiana’s Marah Calvo and Lindsey Stuckey, 8-4. In the second round, the duo had a tougher outing as they fell short against Mississippi State’s Martina Banikova and Makarycheva, losing by an 8-6 decision.

Minnis said Tucker should be fine by tomorrow and will team with Murdock in a consolation match against Notre Dame’s Colleen Rielley and Kali Krisik.

Murdock split her first two sets against Kansas State’s Katerina Kudlackoua in their consolation singles match. In the third set, Murdock went serve for serve with Kudlackoua before falling in a tiebreaker, 6-0, 2-6, 7-6 (3).

Action resumes tomorrow at 11 a.m. with doubles.
