BLOOMINGTON, Ind. — After day one of the Indiana Hoosier Classic, all of the Lady Tigers remaining singles competitors are in consolation brackets heading into tomorrow’s competition.
“It was a tough first day for the girls,” LSU head coach Tony Minnis said. “Hopefully we can regroup tomorrow and start it off well with doubles.”
Tiffany Tucker won her quaterfinals match in the “D” flight against fellow SEC competitor Tatiana Felt of Mississippi State, 7-6 (6), 2-6, 7-6 (6). Tucker had a tougher outing in semifinals as she fell to Indiana’s Stephanie Heller, 6-1, 6-1. Tucker will face another Indiana competitor, Alba Berdala, in a consolation match tomorrow.
In the “B” flight, Junior Anastasiya Dubova was defeated by Notre Dame’s Katie Potts, 6-3, 6-3. Dubova bounced back in her consolation match, as she knocked off Indiana’s Sigrid Fischer in straight sets, 6-3, 7-5. The Ukrainian native will face Murray State’s Valeriya Makarycheva tomorrow in the finals of the “B” consolation bracket.
In the “C” flight, freshman Ashley Murdock struggled in her quarterfinals match against Edina Horvath of Kansas, losing in straight sets each by a 6-2 count. Murdock’s struggles continued in her second match as she was defeated by Elna de Villiers of Mississippi State, 5-7, 6-0, 7-6 (3).
Murdock will be back in action tomorrow when she teams up with Tucker in the doubles portion of the tournament. The duo will battle Indiana’s Marah Calvo and Lindsey Stuckey in the opening round of doubles play.
