PACIFIC PALISADES, Calif. — Sophomore Megan Falcon of the LSU women’s tennis team pushed her winning streak to six matches including five against ranked opponents as she advanced to the main draw of the Riviera/ITA All-American Championships.
“Megan has been terrific in her debut,” LSU head coach Tony Minis said. “I know she must be sore after such a long stretch of matches, but she is a tough competitor and will be fine heading into the main draw.”
In the first set, Falcon faced little competition as she breezed past No. 45-ranked Carol Salge of Clemson to notch the opening set by a 6-0 count. Falcon’s dominance continued in the second set as she took the match and a bid to the main draw with a 6-2 victory.
In her first college tournament, Falcon has knocked off ranked opponents Sabita Walkup (No. 116), Rawia Elsisi (No. 95), Alison Silverio (No. 54), Salge (No. 45) and Tracy Lin (No. 33).
Falcon’s outstanding debut will resume tomorrow in the first round of the main draw. Her opponent will be 19th-ranked Melanie Gloria of Fresno State at 2 p.m. CST.
