BATON ROUGE — Wide receiver Dwayne Bowe and volleyball’s Marina Skender were named the LSU Male and Female Athletes of the Week Tuesday following a vote by a local media panel.
Bowe, a senior from Miami, Fla., caught four passes for 106 yards, including a career-long 58-yard touchdown, in the Tigers’ victory over Fresno State on Saturday.
Bowe’s touchdown grab was the 21st of his career, tying him with former LSU standout Michael Clayton for the school record in the category.
In addition, Bowe became just the sixth player in LSU history to record over 2,000 receiving yards for his career as he currently stands with 2,033.
Skender, an outside hitter for the Tigers, led LSU to a pair of three-game sweeps over Kentucky and No. 25 Tennessee.
The Zagreb, Croatia, native led the team in hitting percentage (.333) and kills (32) and ranked second in digs (28) and service aces (3) on the weekend.
Skender recorded her 400th career dig against Tennessee and she is now just 30 kills shy of 600 for her career as only a sophomore.
