FORT WORTH, Texas — The LSU women’s tennis team completed its second day at the ITA Southwest Regional as four Lady Tigers advanced in the singles main draw and one duo will move on in doubles.
In singles play, freshman Sloane Mathis completed her run in the tournament winning the singles consolation final.
The No. 2 seed qualifier of the qualifying draw, junior Tiffany Tucker defeated No. 10 seeded qualifier Leila Salek to earn her a spot in the main draw.
In her first match of the main draw Tucker fought hard against Texas-San Antonio’s Natalie Wallin. Wallin defeated Tucker in straight sets, 7-5, 7-5. Tucker will continue play in the consolation bracket.
Junior Anastasiya Dubova, sophomore Mykala Hedberg and freshmen Nicole Kantor and Hannah Robinson advanced to the second round of the singles main draw.
Dubova defeated North Texas’ Idalina Franca in straight sets, 7-6(6), 6-4. In the third round of the main draw she will face the No. 1 seed from Baylor, Zuzana Cerna.
No. 12 seeded Hedberg opened play defeating Southeastern Louisiana’s Jana Simurkova in three sets, 4-6, 6-2, 6-2. She will face Texas A&M’s Elze Potgieter in her next match.
Robinson defeated her opponent Tiffany Clifford of Texas A&M in straight sets, 6-0, 6-2. She will continue play against the No. 3 seed from Baylor, Klara Zrustova.
Kantor rounded out the singles wins as she defeated Houston’s Loli Gomez, 6-4, 6-3. She will now face the No. 2 seed from Texas A&M, Anna Lubinsky.
In doubles play, Dubova and Tucker lost to the No. 15 seed Nina Munch-Soegaard and Kewa Nichols from TCU, 8-5. They will continue play in the consolation bracket.
In the first round of the doubles consolation bracket, Hedberg and Kantor defeated Rebecca Franzi and Sonja Nikolic from Houston. They will continue consolation play as they face Jana Simurkova and Bonnie Phillips of Southeastern Louisiana.
In the doubles main draw, the No. 7 seed Falcon and Robinson defeated TCU’s Melissa Bere and Karine Ionesco, 8-1. They will face Loli Gomez and Leila Salek of Houston in the third round.
Play begins Saturday at 8:30 a.m.
