FORT WORTH, Texas — The LSU women’s tennis team will travel to the Friedman Tennis Center in Fort Worth, Texas to compete in the ITA Southwest Regional Championships.
The Lady Tigers will be represented by juniors Anastasiya Dubova and Tiffany Tucker, sophomores Mykala Hedberg and Megan Falcon and freshman Nicole Kantor, Sloane Mathis and Hannah Robinson.
“It will be good opportunity for one of our girls to make a name for themselves,” LSU head coach Tony Minnis said. “Megan (Falcon) did that at the ITA All-American tournament and hopefully someone else can do the same.”
The singles finalists and doubles champion from this event will earn spots in the November 2-5 ITA National Intercollegiate Indoor Championships. This tournament is the second of three national championship events for college tennis this season.
The first, the Riviera/ITA All-American tournament, was held earlier this month, and the third event is the season-ending NCAA Championships in May.
The women’s event will feature top players from Division I schools: host TCU, Baylor, Centenary, Houston, Lamar, Louisiana-Lafayette, Lousiana-Monroe, LSU, McNeese State, North Texas, Rice, Sam Houston State, SMU, Southeastern Louisiana, Texas, Texas A&M, Texas A&M-CC, UTA, Texas-Pan American, Texas-San Antonio, Texas Tech, Texas State and UTEP.
In singles play, Mathis will play the No. 5 seed from UNT, Megan Schumulbach.
Tucker is the No. 2 seed in the tournament. She will play UTPA’s Laurie Anciaux.
In doubles play, Falcon and Robinson are seeded No. 7 and they will open play against UTEP’s Weronika Bloczynska and Katherine Palider.
Dubova and Tucker will play TAMU CC’s Carmen Abeaboeru and Alexandra Dyckman.
Hedberg and Kantor will round out the day as they face the No. 11 seed from SHSU, Lata Assudani and Irina Sotnikova.
Play begins Thursday at 8:30 a.m.
