Men’s Golf Finish Fourth in Oklahoma

EDMOND, Okla. — Junior Brian Noonan and freshman Brent Blaum each earned top-10 finishes and the LSU men’s golf team finished in fourth place in the team standings after Tuesday’s final round in the inaugural Oklahoma Intercollegiate at Oak Tree Golf Club.

The Tigers concluded their fall schedule by finishing in sole possession of fourth place at 65-over 917. Blaum fired the lowest round of the day for the Tigers with a 5-over par 76 and finished the tournament in a tie for ninth place with a three-round total of 13-over 226, while Noonan also finished in a tie for ninth place for his second top-10 finish of the fall season.

Senior Chris Wells earned his second top-20 finish in three tournament appearances as he posted a 14-over 227 to tie for 14th place. Junior Beck Troutman finished earned a tie for 39th, while freshman Bryant Lach finished the first tournament of his career in 44th place.

Tulsa entered the final round with a six-shot lead and posted a team total of 11-over 295 on Tuesday to win the team title by 11 strokes over Baylor with a three-round total of 37-over 889. SMU made the jump from last place to third after firing the lowest round of the day with a 3-over 287 and finished with a 54-hole score of 53-over 905.

Tulsa senior Sam Korbe held on to claim medalist honors after carding a 5-over 76 in the final round, finishing one shot ahead of teammate Nicolas Geyger at 6-over 219 for the tournament. Tim Schaetzel of Michigan, Ben Blundell of Oklahoma and Andrew Landry of Arkansas round out the top-five as each finished in a tie for third place at 9-over 222.

The Tigers have wrapped up their fall schedule and will break for four months before returning to action on Feb. 10 with their annual trip to Gainesville, Fla., to compete in the Gator Invitational at the University of Florida Golf Course. This is scheduled to be the first of seven tournaments in LSU’s busy spring season.
