BATON ROUGE — LSU is ranked No. 18 in the first Bowl Championship Series Standings, which were released on Sunday by the National Football Foundation.
LSU, now 5-2 overall following Saturday’s 49-0 win over Kentucky, has a BCS average of .3395. The Tigers have a an average computer ranking of No. 21, while they are ranked No. 14 in the Harris Interactive Poll and No. 14 in the USA Today Coaches poll. All three components ? computer rankings, Harris Poll and Coaches Poll ? make up the BCS average.
Ohio State stands atop the BCS Standings with a .9731 average. The Buckeyes are followed by Southern Cal (.9559), Michigan (.9341), Auburn (.7478) and West Virginia (.7446).
Other Southeastern Conference teams in the BCS Standings include Florida at No. 6 with a .7375 average, Tennessee at No. 11 (.6256) and Arkansas at No. 13 (.4714). LSU has already faced Florida and the Tigers have November dates against both Tennessee and Arkansas.
LSU returns to action on Saturday when the Tigers host Fresno State at 8 p.m. in Tiger Stadium. It will be the first ever meeting between the teams.
