MIDLAND, Texas — The LSU women’s tennis team completed its first day at the Racquet Club Collegiate Invitational.
Sophomore Staten Spencer and freshman Hannah Robinson could not grab wins in their first matches of the tournament. Spencer fell to the No. 6 seed from Texas A&M, No.112 Anna Blagodarova, 7-5, 6-2. Robinson fell to Rice’s Tiffany Lee, 6-1, 6-3.
“The girls had a tough first day,” LSU assistant coach Lisa Jackson said. “They had tough losses, but came together in doubles play.”
Robinson drew a buy in the consolation bracket.
Spencer won her consolation match as she defeated Rice’s Alanna Rodgers, 6-2, 6-2.
The duo came together to advance in doubles play as they defeated Rebecca Lin and Alanna Rodgers of Rice, 8-4.
Spencer will face Rice’s Emily Braid and Robinson will face UCLA’s Stephanie Wetmore in day two of the tournament.
In doubles play, Spencer and Robinson will be tested against the No. 2 seed from Pepperdine, Sylvia Kosakowski and Anete Bandere.
Play will continue Saturday at 9 a.m.
