BATON ROUGE — The defending champions of the Southeastern Conference will officially be on the court Friday night at the Pete Maravich Assembly Center for the free Fan Fest activities that mark the start of the 2006-07 basketball campaign.
Both the men and women’s team will take part in the activities scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. just as teams throughout the country gather in gyms and arenas for the start of preseason workouts that LSU hopes will return both teams back against to their respective NCAA Final Four sites.
The two teams will have less than a month of preparation before their first exhibition games in the Maravich Center (Nov. 1 for the women and Nov. 9 for the men).
Those attending Fan Fest Friday are asked to enter the Maravich Center through the upper concourse where the activities will start at 7 p.m. The first 500 fans to attend will receive LSU championship t-shirts and fans will be able to pick up the new editions of the men’s and women’s basketball posters and schedule cards for the 2006-07 seasons.
The first 45-minutes of the event fans will join the players and coaching staffs on the upper concourse for an autograph session before activities move into the arena proper. There the teams will be joined by fans for three-point shooting contests, relay races and more, capped off by the highly anticipated dunk contest, judged again this year by the members of the Lady Tigers.
