BATON ROUGE — Tiger swimmer Julius Gloeckner and tennis’ Megan Falcon were named the LSU Male and Female Athletes of the Week Tuesday following a vote by a local media panel.

Gloeckner competed in four events last Friday against top-ranked Auburn, a performance that was highlighted by a win in the 200 individual medley. The Freiburg, Germany defeated the closest competitor by nearly two full seconds to finish in 1:52.36. Gloeckner also finished second in the 200 butterfly, third in the 200 breaststroke and helped the Tigers to a second-place showing in the 400 freestyle relay.

Falcon capped off an unprecedented collegiate premiere by winning the consolation singles bracket at the Rivera/ITA All-American Championships. The sophomore from Alameda, Calif., improved her overall record to 10-1. Nine of her victories have come against ranked opponents, including five among the top 50. By virtue of her consolation bracket victory, Falcon has qualified for the ITA National Intercollegiate Indoor Championships, Nov. 2-5, at Ohio State.
