PACIFIC PALISADES, Calif. — Sophomore Megan Falcon of the LSU women’s tennis team capped off an unprecedented collegiate premiere by winning the consolation singles bracket of the Riviera/ITA All-American Championships.
“This really means a lot to me even though it was only the consolation bracket,” Falcon said. “I am glad I was able to bounce back after losing in the main draw.
“This tournament gave me a chance to play a lot of matches in a short amount of time. It also let me see where I stand with some of the best players in the nation.”
The California native played aggressive throughout her match against Celia Durkin of Stanford as she raced out to a 6-0, 6-0 victory.
With the win, the sophomore sensation improves her record to 10-1. Nine of Falcon’s victories came against ranked opponents including five ranked in the top 50. Additionally, Falcon only lost three sets during the tournament.
“For her first appearance she showed a lot of character and fought through some minor injuries to get through this tournament,” LSU assistant head coach Lisa Jackson said. “I am very proud of her performance and look for her to have more success in the future.”
By winning the consolation bracket Falcon qualified for the ITA National Intercollegiate Indoor Championships on Nov. 2-5 at Ohio State University.
