PACIFIC PALISADES, Calif. — Sophomore Megan Falcon of the LSU women’s tennis team had her six-match winning streak snapped as she lost her first match as a Lady Tiger at the main draw of the Riviera/ITA All-American Championships.
The California native had advanced to the main draw of her first collegiate tournament without losing a set.
“Megan had a tremendous showing this week,” LSU assistant coach Lisa Jackson said. “She gave great effort but just couldn’t put it together in the end.”
Falcon went serve for serve with Fresno State’s Melanie Gloria in the early goings of the first set but struggled towards the end as she lost her first set of her collegiate career, 6-4.
In the second set, Falcon could not gain the upper hand as she went on to lose the set by a 6-2 count.
The loss does not take away from Falcon’s unprecedented premiere. In her first college tournament, Falcon defeated ranked opponents Sabita Walkup (No. 116), Rawia Elsisi (No. 95), Alison Silverio (No. 54), Carol Salge (No. 45) and Tracy Lin (No. 33).
Falcon will compete tomorrow in a two-match consolation round.
