Diary Entry

I never thought I would be able to make it here in Baton Rouge without my family and friends from back home, but I have loved my LSU experience so far this semester. I thought I was going to get homesick as soon as I moved here, but my teammates have made the transition so much easier for me. I room with three other girls on the team ? Rachel Yepez, Michelle Makasini and Kat Walsh ? and they are just a few feet away and ready to listen whenever I need someone to talk to. I don’t know what I would do without them. It doesn’t hurt that my parents come to all of our home games, so I at least get to see them on the weekends. Time has flown by so fast that it doesn’t even seem like we’ve been here for almost two months.

We are well into the season and are already two weeks into the SEC schedule, and I’m very happy with the results that we’ve gotten so far. We’ve had a few bumps along the way, but we’ve bounced back and are showing everyone the type of team we are capable of being. It’s only a matter of time before this team is competing for championships every year, and we’re working toward that this year. We take on Tennessee and Georgia this weekend in a couple of really tough games on the road. These should be very good games. Tennessee won the SEC championship last year and Georgia has the potential to be a contender this year. I think we are all handling the anticipation of this coming weekend very well considering what is at stake for us. We’ve all been practicing very hard and pushing each other to become better soccer players.

Soccer is not the only thing that occupies my time here at LSU. I am currently taking a 16-hour course load, so I tend to spend a lot of my day studying. My favorite class so far is probably theatre. I hated theatre in high school, but here my teacher makes it so much more interesting that I can’t help but become engrossed in every class we have. I’m also taking classes like anthropology and trigonometry. I’m happy I chose to take anthropology because it allows me to learn more about other cultures and has caused me to change my outlook on my lifestyle and appreciate what I have. I’m doing alright so far with my schoolwork, and it’s definitely taken a little getting used to coming in from high school.

I just love being here at LSU. I am in love with all of the unique things that it has to offer, and I couldn’t picture myself playing soccer and going to school anywhere else. Geaux Tigers!!!
