PACIFIC PALISADES, Calif. — Sophomore Megan Falcon of the LSU women’s tennis team advanced to the third round of the Riviera/ITA All-American Championships qualifying competition.
Falcon began the day in a tough battle against Georgia Tech’s Alison Silverio. Falcon was up 5-4 with Silverio serving. Falcon played an aggressive return and won the set 6-4. She never let Silverio back in the match as she dominated the next set winning it 6-1.
“Megan played good, solid tennis and just rolled over her opponent,” LSU head coach Tony Minnis said.
Falcon fought hard in her second match of the day as the first set went to a tiebreaker. UCLA’s Tracy Lin led the entire match, but Falcon dominated the tiebreaker. She went on to dominate the next set as she defeated Lin in straight sets, 7-6(1), 6-0.
“Megan fought very hard to get through her first set,” Minnis said. “Then she took over and won the tiebreaker with ease.”
Falcon will attempt to clinch her spot as a qualifier in the main draw on Wednesday against 45th-ranked Carol Salge of Clemson.
“I am just going to keep fighting hard and staying consistent,” Falcon said.
