TULSA, Okla. — The first round of the Polo Ralph Lauren All-American Tennis Qualifying did not fair well for the LSU men’s tennis team as the two Tigers competing lost in straight sets.
Danny Bryan and Jan Zelezny will each compete in a one match consolation round tomorrow.
“It was an extremely windy day today and we really haven’t had an opportunity to practice in these conditions,” LSU head coach Brown commented. “Hopefully Danny and Jan learned some things on how to deal with this kind of weather and are better prepared in the future.”
Bryan fell behind early in his match against Wichita State’s Goran Vukakilja and could not get the upper hand in the match as he lost in straight sets, 6-4, 6-2.
Zelezny struggled in his match as well as Northwestern’s Willy Lock defeated Zelezny, 6-3 6-2. Zelezny will be back in action tomorrow as he teams up with Kevin Dessauer to battle Tulsa’s Arnau Brugues and Federico Soriano in the first round of the doubles portion of the tournament
Senior Ken Skupski and sophomore James Cluskey are set to compete Thursday. Skupski will compete in the main draw of singles and will team up with Cluskey in the main draw of doubles.
Play will resume 8 a.m. Tuesday.
