Falcon Advances in ITA All-American Pre-Qualifying

PACIFIC PALISADES, CALIF. — Sophomore Megan Falcon of the LSU women’s tennis team defeated her first two opponents in the pre-qualifying round to earn a spot in the third round singles competition at the Riviera/ITA Women’s All-American Championships.

In her first collegiate match, the Alameda, Calif., native defeated Hawaii’s Sabita Walkup in straight sets, 6-3, 6-0.

“She was moving well, attacking and taking control of the match,” LSU head coach Tony Minnis said. “She won the second set 6-0 which is really hard to do at this level. She just stayed on the girl, kept focused and came out on top.”

Falcon competed in her second match of the day against Northwestern’s Laura Lui, and advanced again in straight sets, 6-3, 6-4.

“Laura Lui is a good competitor, and Megan (Falcon) had to play really hard to win this match,” Minnis said. “She fought hard and had to stay on her game the whole time.”

Falcon will resume play Troy’s Rawia Elsisi on Sunday at 2 p.m.

Should Falcon win this match she will move on to the qualifying round which begins on Tuesday.
