Doucet, PIttman Named LSWA Players of the Week

BATON ROUGE — LSU Tiger players Early Doucet and Chase Pittman and Louisiana-Lafayette’s Johnny Felders earned Louisiana Sports Writers Association College Football Player of the Week honors Monday as announced the association.

Doucet was named the Offensive Player of the Week and Pittman and Felders shared the Defensive Player of the Week honors after nominations from football playing SIDs from around the state and a final vote by members of the LSWA.

Doucet, a junior wide receiver from St. Martinville, La., scored a career-best three touchdowns, all in the first half, in LSU’s 49-7 win over Tulane. In all, caught four passes for 36 yards and two scores and rushed once for a 17-yard TD. He became the first LSU wide receiver since Michael Clayton in 2001 to have both a rushing touchdown and a receiving touchdown in the same game.

On defense, co-winner Pittman recorded four tackles and forced a fumble in LSU’s win over Tulane. He also added a sack for a seven-yard loss against the Green Wave as the tigers limited Tulane to just seven points and 231 yards of offense. The forced fumble and sack came on the same play by the Shreveport senior and led to an LSU touchdowns just three plays later.

Felders, the senior strong safety from Pine Grove, La., started the Cajuns scoring barrage in a 48-7 win over North Carolina A&T with an 18-yard blocked punt return for a touchdown. He also contributed three solo tackles and a sack in the win. Felders nearly got a second touchdown when he recovered a fumble and returned the ball 21 yards down to the NCA&T eight-yard line, leading to a Cajuns score on the very next play.

Also receiving votes on offense from the voting panel was quarterback Jerry Babb of Louisiana-Lafayette and linebacker Quin Harris of Louisiana Tech on defense.
