Men’s Tennis Players Begin Qualifying at Pro Futures Event

IRVINE, Calif — The LSU men’s tennis team looks to continue its early fall success at the Racquet Club of Irvine Meyer Pharmacetical Pro Futures event this weekend.

The tournament, which begins Friday, will be comprised of 128 singles competitors. A competitor must win three straight matches in this single elimination event to reach the main draw of the event. The Tigers are competing as amateurs in this event.

This is the second of six fall tournaments for the Tigers after they finished an impressive opening weekend coming away with four bracket titles at the Courtyard by Marriot/Rice Invitational two weeks ago.

“Hopefully with this tournament we will be able to gets good experience and improve on some things,” LSU head coach Jeff Brown said. “The Rice Invitational really gave our guys a lot of confidence about what they were capable of and hopefully we can continue that great attitude heading into this weekend.”

Six LSU players are set to compete in this tournament – Seniors Danny Bryan and Ken Skupski, juniors Martel Campbell, Colt Gaston and Jan Zelezny and sophomore James Cluskey. The Tigers will find out who they face when the qualifying draw is released early Friday morning.
