Diary Entry
I arrived at LSU on Aug. 8, and I can’t believe I’ve already been here a month and a half. I’ve never lived with anyone other than my family before, so I was a little nervous when I got here but things have gone really well so far. I have three great roommates (Malorie Rutledge, Nikki Bush and Chelsea Potts) and they are all so much fun to be around and hang out with.
Today is Sept. 19, which means that we begin SEC play this Friday against Vanderbilt. It’s amazing how fast the year has gone by so far. It seems like just yesterday we were waking up at 6 a.m. for fitness testing at the track. Thankfully we only wake up early for practice once a week now. Friday night is a huge game for us. It’s our first SEC game and I know we’re really well prepared. Vanderbilt is a good team, and we’re going to have to come out fighting and play hard from the beginning. Thankfully Caroline (Vanderpool) and Joleen (Phillips), who were both out this past weekend because of injuries, will be healthy and able to play. They bring a lot to this team, and we’re all happy that they’re back.
I’ve never been so excited about being on a team in my life. We have the most amazing players this year, all of whom bring something completely different to the table. I came here because I wanted to be a part of something special. With the team and the coaches here at LSU, it’s only a matter of time before we’ll be at the top. I’ve known Brian for a long time and I have no doubt that he is going to turn this program into one of the best in the nation!
School has been a big change for me so far. I was so used to having a detailed schedule where my teachers reminded me on a daily basis what my homework was, when it was due, when our tests were scheduled, etc. Now, everything is up to me. While it can be a little stressful at times I also really like it. Another huge change for me has been being away from my hometown and my family. I miss my friends from home more than I thought I would, but I talk to them every day so it’s not too bad.
I’m really close with both my parents and my siblings as well. Luckily they aren’t very far away and they visit on a regular basis. In fact, they’ll be here in a couple days for the Vanderbilt game. My little brother, Richard, is in the middle of football season and he’s the quarterback of his team. I tried to go to most of his games when I was home, whether it was football, baseball or basketball. Needless to say I haven’t made it to a football game yet, but he calls me after each game to tell me how he did. My little sister rides horses and sings in the choir. She’s in the eighth grade, so whenever I talk to her on the phone she always has tons of stories for me. I always look forward to talking to each of them. I have all the support I could ever ask for from each of them, as well as my teammates and coaches, and I know that I will have a great four years both on and off the field here at LSU.
