BATON ROUGE — Defensive tackle Glenn Dorsey and forward Michelle Makasini were named the LSU Male and Female Athletes of the Week Tuesday following a vote by a local media panel.
Dorsey, a junior out of Gonzales, La., was nearly unstoppable in his efforts against Auburn, leading the team with a career-high eight tackles, including three tackles that totaled 17 yards in losses. Dorsey added a pair of sacks and a quarterback hurry in the contest while helping LSU hold Auburn to just 182 yards of total offense. He was also named the SEC Defensive Lineman of the Week for his efforts.
Makasini, a freshman on the Tigers’ soccer team, was recognized after guiding the Tigers to a 2-1 record last week, as the squad dropped a close contest to No. 14 Texas midweek before picking up pair of wins over South Alabama and Southern Miss over the weekend.
Scoring 10 points on the week, the Euless, Texas, native had two assists against the Longhorns and was credited with all of the Tigers’ scoring against the Jaguars, recording a hat trick in the 3-0 victory. She also turned in the game-tying goal in the 2-1 win over the Golden Eagles.
Makasini, who leads the SEC in goals (eight) and points (17) this season, was also named the conference’s Freshman of the Week for her performance.
