FRANKLIN, Tenn. — The 19th-ranked LSU women’s golf team, after shooting the sixth best 54-hole total in school history in the opening event Monday and Tuesday, are quickly back in action in the Mason Rudolph Invitational starting Friday at the Vanderbilt Legends Club.
LSU posted rounds of 295-284-299 to shot 14-over 878 to finish fourth in the opening College of Charleston Cougar Classic earlier this week and will now try to continue the good play on the course they finished seventh on last April in the SEC Women’s Championships. The Ironhorse course at the Legends Club will be the layout for the event, playing to 6,347 yards and a par of 72.
Joining LSU and host Vanderbilt in the event are Alabama, Arizona, Arkansas, Duke, Georgia, High Point, Missouri, Oklahoma State, Purdue, Stanford, UCLA, Virginia and Wake Forest.
“We had a good opening tournament and it will be interesting to see how we respond turning things around so fast on the players,” said LSU Coach Karen Bahnsen. “We’ve got to forget the first event and concentrate on the here and now, taking one shot at a time to get us the best possible results.”
LSU’s lineup is led by senior Melissa Eaton, who finished in fourth place in the Cougar Classic after shooting rounds of 73-69-73 to finish at one-under par 215 in the opening event. She averaged a team best 75 strokes per round a year ago.
Rebecca Kuhn finished 19th in the opener and Alexis Rather in a tie for 20th place and they will be joined by Kim Meck and Melissa’s twin sister, Nicola.
LSU will tee off on hole No. 10 beginning at 8:14 a.m. CDT and will play with Purdue and High Point. Live scoring for the event can be found at www.golfstat.com
After a busy opening week, the Lady Tigers will come home for a couple of weeks off before heading out to North Carolina for the Lady Tar Heel event, October 6-8.
