BATON ROUGE — A power outage that shutdown the entire campus and most of the city on Wednesday afternoon didn’t slow down the sixth-ranked LSU football team as the Tigers continued to prepare for Saturday’s conference showdown with third-ranked Auburn.
Wednesday’s workout was the first time LSU was able to go outside as afternoon rain showers forced the Tigers indoors on Monday and Tuesday.
“It was a fast-paced workout,” Miles said of LSU’s practice on Wednesday. “The tempo was good. There are some small pieces that need work on that will have to be ironed out, but we should be up and running for Saturday.”
Miles said the Tigers continue to be without the services of tight end Keith Zinger (stomach ailment). Zinger, who missed last week’s game against Arizona, is out of the hospital and is doing better according to Miles.
“He (Keith Zinger) is doing well and he looks healthy,” Miles said. “I think it would be a stretch if we could get him on the plane to Auburn, but I think in the near future he’ll be fine.”
In Zinger’s absence, the Tigers will continue to rely on junior Mit Cole and true freshman Richard Dickson, who made his first career start against Arizona.
“They (Cole and Dickson) are obviously not as experienced as Keith but they have strengths, and we’ll keep pretty much most of our offense intact,” Miles said.
Outside of Zinger, Miles said the Tigers go into the Auburn game in good shape health wise.
The Tigers will hold their final workout on Thursday afternoon and then hold a walk-through on Friday morning before departing for Auburn.
LSU and Auburn meet at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday at Jordan-Hare Stadium in the only top 10 matchup in college football this weekend. The game will be televised to a national audience by CBS. Last year, LSU beat Auburn, 20-17, in overtime on its way to claiming the SEC Western Division crown.
