BATON ROUGE — Running back Jacob Hester and middle blocker Melody Clark were named the LSU Male and Female Athletes of the Week Tuesday in a vote by a local media panel.
Hester, a Shreveport native, rushed for 43 yards and a score on eight carries and caught six passes for 53 yards and a second touchdown in the Tigers’ 45-3 dismantling of Arizona. The junior’s two touchdown performance was the first of his career and his six catches for 53 yards both marked career highs. In addition, Hester recorded the longest rush of his career, scoring on a 28-yard carry in the third quarter.
Clark, a native of Colorado Springs, Colo., led LSU to the Dayton Marriott Invitational title as the Tigers recorded a perfect 3-0 record that included a wins over Dayton, Indiana and Wake Forest.
Individually, Clark was named to the all-tournament team after leading the Tigers with a .400 hitting percentage on the weekend. The senior also ranked second on the team in blocks per game (1.4) and third in kills per game (3.3). In addition, she led the match in kills (17) and hitting percentage (.577) against Indiana and topped all performers with six blocks against Wake Forest.
