West Wins Volleyball All-Star Game, 3-1

BATON ROUGE — The West all-stars won the first game of the LHSCA/Coca-Cola All-Star Volleyball match for the second straight year, but this time closed the deal to win for just the fourth time in 24 matches against the East Wednesday night at the Pete Maravich Assembly Center.

The match opened the 69th and final All-Star week of games in the current format on the LSU campus. The two basketball games are set for Thursday night at 6 p.m. at the Maravich Center and the final football game in this present format will be played Friday night at 6:30 in Tiger Stadium. The volleyball and basketball games will continue in single event formats following the conclusion of their respective seasons.

The West won the match 3-1 by scores of 25-21, 25-22, 25-17, 25-17. The East continues to lead the series, 20-4. It was the West’s first win in the series since 2000, stopping a five-match East winning streak.

Lauren Mayer of Ridgewood for the West was the Most Outstanding Player as chosen by the Louisiana Sports Writers Association. Mayer hit .258 for the contest, with a match high 14 kills in 31 attempts with one ace. Tiffany Wesley also had double digit kills for the West with 12.

Rachel Mauti led the East with 12 kills, while Mae Linder had 10.
